Abstract
This article asks this question: Is Eric Snowden a hero or a traitor? It works to the answer with a discussion of each of the following: a brief history of domestic surveillance by the United States Government and how that surveillance was uncovered and made public; the degree of domestic surveillance today, attempts to keep it secret, and how it was discovered; whether today's domestic surveillance is legal, under both statutory and constitutional law; the need to guard our guardians; and, finally, my answer to the question asked at the beginning: hero or traitor.
