EXECUTIVE SUMMARY * E-cigarettes are not regulated in the United States and can therefore be legally sold and used by minors. They aerosolize nicotine and other flavorings, and can be used to deliver other drugs of abuse. * Nicotine causes increased mental alertness, as well as mood enhancement and mild euphoria. It is also an appetite suppressant. * Ingestion of nicotine in large amounts often leads to nausea and vomiting, thereby limiting toxicity. * Nicotine toxicity includes bronchorrhea, wheezing, seizures, and rhabdomyolysis. Use of succinylcholine in patients with nicotine toxicity is not recommended.
