Abstract
'The gradual depletion of the ozone layer and the related 'greenhouse effect' has now reached crisis proportions as a consequence of industrial growth, massive urban concentrations and vastly increased energy needs.' So wrote Blessed Pope John Paul II more than twenty years ago in his 1990 World Day of Peace Message, Peace with God the Creator, Peace with All Creation. Yet despite this prophetic insight from the late pontiff, as well as the subsequent calls to address anthropogenic climate change (ACC) made by Pope Benedict XVI, national Catholic bishops' conferences, and Catholic NGOs, unmitigated ACC has intensified rather than abated since 1990.
