Abstract
An association between mitral valve prolapse and both low weight and small left ventricular size has been suggested to exist in nonanorexic and anorexic patients. No evidence of mitral valve prolapse syndrome was seen in the authors' patients. Thus, mitral valve prolapse in anorexia nervosa is at least in part due to a weight-loss-induced reduction in left ventricular size that results in a size disproportion between the mitral valve and the left ventricle.
