Abstract
A family has been studied wherein 5 of 7 members of a sibship showed carcinoma (all histologically confirmed). Three of the brothers showed carcinoma of the prostate, with 2 of these having an additional separate primary malignancy—one with transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder and the other with bronchogenic carcinoma of the lung. These data were compared with 109 consecutive patients with histologically confirmed prostate carcinoma treated during a 10‐year‐period (1955‐1964). Twenty‐two of the 109 (20%) showed multiple primary malignancies, with 2 showing 5 separate primary malignant neoplasms. Attention is called to the high incidence of multiple malignant neoplasms occurring in association with prostate carcinoma in particular in this series of patients and possibly in patients of comparable age. Possible hereditary factors for this lesion are discussed.
