Abstract

To demonstrate surgical excision of a longitudinal vaginal septum. To review the preoperative evaluation and postoperative care of patients undergoing resection of longitudinal vaginal septum. Description and demonstration of surgical technique. While longitudinal vaginal septa are a relatively rare anatomic variant it is nevertheless important that gynecologic surgeons are well-versed in their evaluation and management. Patient with known longitudinal vaginal septum and uterus didelphys. Resection of longitudinal vaginal septum. Complete resection of septum and repair of vaginal epithelial defect. Complete resection of a longitudinal vaginal septum is a relatively safe and straightforward procedure that is well within the scope of the generalist gynecologic surgeon. Resection of the septum provides substantial symptomatic relief for patients with this unique anatomic variant.
