Abstract
The features of the STAR detector and a brief overview of the physics goals of the experiment are presented. The charged particle momentum analysis is provided by a room temperature solenoidal magnet with a uniform magnetic field of maximum value 0.5T. The Silicon Vertex Tracker (SVT) is used to find the charged particle tracking close to the interaction region. The STAR is expected to utilize polarized proton-proton collisions to accumulate detailed information on the contribution of gluons to the spin of the proton.
