Abstract
Two accurate and economical procedures for simultaneous estimation of nalidixic acid and metronidazole in two component tablet formulations have been developed. The methods employ simultaneous equations and Q-analysis for the simultaneous estimation of nalidixic acid and metronidazole. In 50% acetonitrile 256 nm, absorbance maxima of nalidixic acid, 320 nm, absorbance maxima of metronidazole and 279 nm, isobestic point of both the drugs were used as a analytical wavelength. The Beer's Law range for nalidixic acid and metronidazole were found to be 0-22.5 μg/ml (regression equation is C = 9.544 ABS + 0.038) and 0-15 μg/ml (regression equation is C = 19.508 ABS + 0.094) respectively. The results of the analysis have been validated statistically and by recovery studies.
