Abstract
Presents cross-national results from 23 countries of version 6 of the "Fiscal Austerity and Urban Innovation (FAUI) Project." It includes many amenity-related analyses & measures of the attitudes & goals of mayors & city councils in relation to parks, recreation, & culture. The 20-year history of the FAUI Project & various publications dealing with FAUI materials/surveys are described. Comparative charts illustrate such things as the spending preferences of city mayors in 27 countries & 30 US states; citizen spending preferences; responses to mayors' preferences; group spending preferences; group activity levels; & government responses to groups. The results show that mayors from fragile liberal democracies & countries that are predominantly Roman Catholic are the biggest spenders. On average, mayors want to spend more on parks/recreation than education, & mayors perceive citizens as most interested in spending on parks/recreation followed by capital stock. Results of the other charts are discussed. 2 Tables, 5 Figures. J. Lindroth
