Abstract
Cellular function results from the cumulative function of many cellular enzyme systems. A large number of the enzymatic activators and inhibitors such as cyclic AMP, calcium and magnesium ion, and various hormones are known to exercise their overall effects by modification at many of the sublevels of total function. Analysis of the overall effect of complex modifiers on the function of large enzyme systems is approached using concepts evolved naturally from the basic precepts of simple and allosteric enzyme kinetics. Random walk theory serves as the theoretical framework for the analysis.
