Abstract
There is a definite need for the voluntary central purchasing program. As stated by His Eminence, Francis Cardinal Spellman, "Funds and group buying should receive equal attention to the necessary task of raising funds and group buying represents a substantial step toward the most economical utilization of every contributed dollar." | The potential dollar volume of the archdiocese is $1,335,000 and represents an adequate purchasing power to initiate the program. The figure should be larger as it does not represent the large purchase item, textbooks. This dollar figure can be compared to the initial dollar volume of $1,000,000 that the Institutional Commodity Services, Inc., the group purchasing bureau of the Archdiocese of New York, started with in 1941. Their purchase volume is now over $2,000,000 a month with savings of over $1,000,000 a year.
