Abstract
In celebration of Creighton University’s inauguration of its 24th president, Rev. Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., the Inauguration Committee, invited Creighton faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends to participate in a day of service. In conversations with community partners, the committee acknowledged that the greatest need in the area was for food donations, as a result of the extensive flooding in our community as well as the effects from the economic downturn. Therefore, Feed the Spirit was a weeklong effort to collect food for flooding victims and other community members in need, culminating in a campus event held in honor of our 24th president’s inauguration. The Goals of Feed the Spirit were:
•
To highlight Creighton as a family, coming together to celebrate Fr. Lannon and Creighton’s commitment to the community
•
To partner students, faculty, staff and alumni with our larger Omaha and national communities
•
To provide direct service to community agencies on October 1, 2011 without being a burden to their organizations
•
To offer reflection opportunities for those involved
