Abstract
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease that can causes bradykinesia, muscle rigidity, resting tremors, and impairment of postural reflexes. There is no cure, however there are a few interventions aimed at improving effects of Parkinson’s disease. One intervention is LSVT-BIG, an amplitude-based intervention, intentionally focusing on gait velocity and stride length. LSVT-BIG aims to recalibrate the speed-amplitude relationship in movements that is effected in PD. We aimed to find if LSVT-Big is effective in improving functional mobility in people with PD. Through a rigorous review of the present literature, we found that implementation of LSVT-Big as an intervention for those with PD showed significant changes in gait speed and significant changes in motor function. These results provide evidence that LSVT-BIG is an effective intervention in improving functional mobility in people with PD.
