Abstract
The goal was to examine the evidence for the use of art-based interventions to improve the psychological wellbeing of older adults with declining mental health. Older adults are an increasing proportion of the population and with their growth will create more need to address the associated problems with aging. These problems include anxiety, depression, dementia, cognitive decline, and more. The research suggests that there is good evidence to support the use of art-based interventions for the aging population. Interventions involving various types of visual art activities were shown to cause improvements in scores of depression, cognition, anxiety, and functional activity.
