Abstract
BACKGROUND: Mental illnesses have become more prevalently diagnosed, especially as treatments and care have become more readily available. Immigrants are individuals who are more prone to experiencing mental illness after immigrating to a different country. There are several different mental diagnoses prevalent in immigrant populations compared to native populations. AIM: What is the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy-based services within occupational therapy through decreasing symptoms of mental illness for immigrants? METHODS: Level 1A and 1B research studies were utilized for the CAT. These studies focused on the impact of various CBT interventions on immigrants with various mental illnesses. Research studies focusing on immigrant populations, CBT interventions, and decrease in mental health symptoms were utilized. RESULTS: Level 1A and 1B research conducted on the efficacy of CBT interventions used with immigrant populations experiencing mental health symptoms has shown clear and comprehensive evidence on the effectiveness of CBT in decreasing mental health symptoms for immigrant individuals.
