Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of pain management on reducing pain for patients that are diagnosed with cancer. Many individuals get diagnosed with cancer each year and experience pain that decreases one's ability to participate in daily occupations. Occupational therapists can play a key role in pain management techniques for their patients to increase activity participation. Studies displayed decreased pain utilizing interventions such as virtual reality, spiritual practices, pain medications, massage therapy, coaching method, and medical marijuana. The interventions that displayed to be most effective at reducing pain include virtual reality, pain medications, and the coaching method. More studies need to be administered to determine the most effective intervention for pain management due to different variations of types of cancer and individual pain perception measures.
